JUNE 2021 NEWSLETTER
Hello everyone! We received such positive feedback after our last newsletter, that we have decided to produce biannual newsletters - so here is our first WINTER edition! The photo above was taken by Ingrid at the beautiful Rotorua Centennial Park.
After a difficult year for many in 2020, we recognise that our community needs us more than ever.  We are excited to announce that we have joined Pledge 1%, a global movement to create a new normal for companies of all sizes and stages to have a positive social impact through their business. Index Engineering is proud to donate 1% of our consulting fees to charity.
Index Engineering has chosen three charities for our 2020 donation: The Endangered Species Foundation, The Rotorua Mountain Bike Club (First Response Unit) and KidsCan.

“We are so grateful for this donation.” said Cheryl Reynolds, Chief Executive of the Endangered Species Foundation. “New Zealand is currently facing the potential mass extinction of hundreds of species with thousands more endangered, and we are working with extreme urgency to turn things around for our most threatened animals, birds, insects and plants. This donation will go a long way to supporting much needed mahi and advocacy for our most vulnerable species.”

DESIGN VERIFICATION TEAM GROWS !

We want to congratulate Hadi Shirgir and Eham Kanesha who have been added to the Engineering NZ Register for Design Verifiers.

Index Engineering is now in a position where we have SIX Chartered Professional Engineers who are also registered Design Verifiers.

This level of expertise gives our clients a great deal of confidence in our ability to deliver  outstanding Design Verification services.
Congratulations

Our team have been playing hard as well as working hard in the last six months:

- Laurence competed in the Ironman 70.3 in March, placing a very impressive 28 of 517.
- Pierre competed in the Highlanders Geyser to Lake Mountain bike event in April.
- Tom competed in his first full marathon in May.

Congratulations also to Hadi, who graduated with a Masters of Engineering Project Management from AUT at the end of 2020.
Some of the jobs we have been working on in the last six months:
New Oil Thermal Boiler
Index Engineering has been contracted to assist with piping detail design engineering for a new Oil Thermal Boiler.
This is an impressive project, with the proposed carbon-neutral boiler providing the energy for a new state-of-the-art wood processing plant in Gisborne. Lead Engineer Hadi and Senior Designer James, have described this as a complex and rewarding project to be involved in.
Kawakawa Vintage Railway
This is a very interesting job for Eham, James and Jan. The Bay of Islands Trust's star attraction is the Gabriel, which is a wonderful example of a working steam engine - and the only one of her class left in the world. The Trust has been funded to replace the old steam boiler with a new one and asked Index Engineering to help. Index designed the replacement boiler to relevant current codes, using metric dimensions and all new materials.  This photo is of Eham looking at the original 1926 hand drawings of the boiler.

Overseas Equipment
Sometimes, equipment brought in from overseas does not comply to New Zealand standards and Index Engineering is engaged to help the client understand and modify equipment or supports to meet those standards. Puneet worked on a distillery earlier this year, where a modification to a baseplate design was required to help the client get their equipment "over the line".
Oji Kinleith Support
Index continues to provide engineering design, design review and project management support to Oji Kinleith. It has been a particular challenge this year, due to the impact of Covid-19 on supply lines and human resourcing.
Student engineer, Joon Kwon, joined us for his placement over Summer. He provided valuable assistance in reformatting some of our spreadsheets to become more user friendly, as well as assisting with engineering calculations. This photo was taken on his final day, as he explained a new spreadsheet to Hadi, Tom and Jan.
ANNUAL LAKE DAY

The team and families enjoyed a lovely day at Lake Okareka for our annual late Summer get-together.
We would like to do a Shout-Out to Stephen Graham at BDO in Rotorua.

Stephen and the BDO team have been providing us with competent accounting and insightful business support for the last ten years.

Thankyou: we really value our relationship!
