Hi Everyone,
Christmas Greetings from us all!
On behalf of us all at Index Engineering, we would like to thank you for your continued support and business with us in a challenging year and we wish you the very best for a wonderful Christmas. We would also like to take this opportunity to share with you some of this year's highlights.

10 YEARS
This year has been a special year for us as we celebrate our 10th year in business!

We have provided services to over 400 clients over this time, and are currently working on projects from Kawakawa in the North to Antarctica in the South.

* WE HAVE MOVED *
We moved to new premises on 9^th November 2020.
You can now find us at 1340 Hinemoa Street, Rotorua.

DESIGN VERIFICATION

We want to congratulate Tom Knight, Puneet Malik and Nicky Shaw. In the last 10 months, these Chartered Professional Engineers were assessed as competent Design Verifiers for Pressure Equipment (pressure piping and pressure vessels) and have been added to the Engineering NZ Register for Design Verifiers. Our clients can feel very confident in the expertise of our team to deliver outstanding technical results in Design Verification.

In addition, Index Engineering is pleased to have gained accreditation under the Competence Model. This means that we have been assessed by IANZ and they are satisfied that we have sound systems in place to train, supervise and assess our engineers in terms of Design Verification competencies. As a result of this, Index Engineering is now permitted to authorise signatory Design Verifiers.

This year Index has welcomed Pierre van Staden (left), Ashley Waghorn (middle) and Laurence Lickfold (right) to the team.

Pierre is a Designer with 13 years of experience in a similar role. He moved here from South Africa with his wife and son and was very fortunate that they arrived in NZ a month before we went into lockdown.

Ashley is our new Office and Project Administrator. She brings prior experience in administration, Health & Safety and engineering project coordination to this role and we are looking forward to embracing her new ideas.

Laurence is a Graduate Engineer who was previously employed by us as a Summer intern. He has been enjoying the interesting and diverse range of jobs that he has been working on.

We also welcome Joon Kwon as our intern for the 2020/2021 Summer.

Mokoia Island

The Index Engineering team visited Mokoia Island in May as a team building exercise post Covid-19. This outing included a jet boat experience, lunch as well as an informative guided walk around the island learning some of our local history. The team thoroughly enjoyed this experience, and it was a great opportunity to re-group and re-connect as a team after isolation.

DESIGN, DESIGN REVIEW AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Like all businesses in NZ, we were impacted by Covid-19 this year. For us, this meant that some new jobs in response to Covid-19 were taken on, while a number of programmed jobs were delayed. 2020 jobs included:

Chemical Dosing Storage Tanks and Platform
Index Engineering was asked to do the piping and detail design for this chemical dosing plant. The project achieved good outcomes for the client, by ensuring that operational requirements were met, with good accessibility to equipment on the platform and a tidy arrangement.

10HD Tank

This was an interesting design and project management job that involved the removal and replacement of a large tank on Kinleith site. The main challenges were the very small area available to work in, and the need to bring in a 450-tonne crane for a 110-tonne lift.

Coater Guarding Project

Index was involved in the measure and design of this guarding project, ensuring that the guarding met operational requirements and allowed for the completion of maintenance tasks in a safe manner.

Recovery Boiler 4
Metal spray of the lower furnace was cancelled due to Covid-19. This gave us an opportunity to fully inspect and map out the lower furnace tube walls in preparation for scoping of the metal spray in 2021.

Carter Holt Harvey
We have been pleased to be able to support the teams in Nelson, Tokoroa and Kawerau with their engineering design requirements.

Mercury
Index has been involved in a number of jobs for Mercury including design, design verification and fitness for service assessments. In addition, Project Engineer Bevan has been working with Mercury in their Rotorua office and onsite, as a support to their engineering team

Turpentine Decanter Replacement for Oji Tasman

Index Engineering is designing a stainless steel decanter vessel to replace the existing carbon steel vessel as well as upgrading the piping.
James used Solidworks and SMAP to complete the design work.

ROTORUA BUSINESS AWARDS

A group from Index Engineering attended this year's Business Awards to support our local Rotorua business scene. This year the awards had a different focus, due to the impact of Covid-19, so it was a good chance to celebrate how resilient Rotorua has been in this difficult and challenging time. This was an awesome event and we look forward to attending again.

We will be closed for business from noon 24h December, reopening again on Monday 11th January 2021.
